Straw-Based Biopurification Systems to Remove Ibuprofen, Diclofenac and Triclosan from Wastewaters: Dominant Microbial Communities

The continued discharge of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) into the environment due to their widespread use lack effective systems for removal from water is a global problem. In this study, dissipation ibuprofen, diclofenac triclosan added simultaneously in biopurification (BPSs) with different compositions effect on microbial community structure was analysed. Three BPSs, constituted by mixtures soil (S), peat (P), or raw wet olive mill cake (A) its vermicompost (V) straw (S) were prepared (SPS, SAS SVS). Sorption degradation experiments carried out. After 84 days incubation, more than 85% each PPCP applied had dissipated. Methyl-triclosan determined be highest SVS biomixture. Biomixtures lower C/N ratio higher alpha diversity most PPCPs. Initially, BPS biomixtures showed dominated Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria Bacteroidetes but after addition PPCPs, similar pattern observed relative abundance phylum Chloroflexi, class Sphingobacteriia genus Brevundimonas. These can useful prevent point source contamination disposal PPCP-contaminated waters.
